Walter 'Walt'
Stephen Rothe
Sep 10, 1948 — Dec 11, 2023
D'Hanis
Walter 'Walt' Stephen Rothe, 75, of D'Hanis passed away on December 11, 2023 at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio. He was born on September 10, 1948 in San Antonio, Texas, the only son of Bonnard Duncan James Rothe and Stella Mae Paschal Rothe.
Walt graduated from D'Hanis High School in 1967 and continued his education at The University of Texas at Austin. He had many accomplishments during his lifetime. He played baseball at The University of Texas and was drafted by the Montreal Expos. After retiring from baseball, Walt became a cattle rancher and worked hard to make sure that his family was taken care of.
Walt was a beloved husband to Kathy Rothe for over 30 years. He was also a devoted father to his sons and daughters, Ryan Rothe (Avery) of D'Hanis, Robin Simmons (Jason) of La Grange, Kentucky, Reagan Rothe (Minna) of Castroville, Kelly McIntosh (Mike) of Llano, Susan VanDeWater of Pflugerville, and Aaron Cooper (Ashley) of Castroville; thirteen grandchildren who he loved dearly, Mae Simmons, Wyatt Rothe, Maggie Rothe, Myer Simmons, Lena Rothe, Walter Lee Rothe, Shelby McIntosh, Ben McIntosh, Jonah VanDeWater, Kendall Cooper, Eli VanDeWater, and Ainsley Cooper.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his granddaughter, Max Simmons.
He was an incredibly devoted husband to Kathy and the best father anyone could ask for to his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but we take comfort in knowing that he is reunited with his parents in heaven above.
The Holy Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 followed by a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in D'Hanis. Services will conclude with a bereavement meal.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Walt's memory to St. Louis Catholic School or to the charity of your choice.
