Obituary

Velma Lee Tucker Jackson (Veejay) passed away at home in San Antonio, Texas on June 4, 2026 after a long battle with kidney disease. Veejay was born February 7, 1934 and grew up with her siblings on a farm in Greensboro, Alabama.

She is predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Glen A. Jackson; father, Joseph R. Tucker; mother, Claudia E. Tucker; siblings Lester Tucker (Dothan Al), Lawrence Tucker (Tuscaloosa, Al), Rogers Tucker (Gadsden, AL), Justine Davis (Titusville, FL) and Joe Tucker (Jackson, TN).

Veejay (Aunt Velma) is survived by numerous nieces and nephews who reside all over the United States - each one as special to her as she was to them! They referred to her as their "cool aunt" and their "worldly aunt."  She dressed like a model, was an accomplished artist, could cook anything from all over the world and was willing to share recipes from her extensive collection with anyone who asked! Her favorite foods were German dishes and she loved Julia Child!

Veejay married the love of her life, Lt. Col. Glen Jackson (USAF Ret.) in 1953. Serving the Air Force, they lived in Washington DC., Colorado Springs, Germany, Hawaii, and South Carolina. After Glen's retirement he and Veejay moved to Ruskin, FL and relocated to Sarasota where she developed and honed her art of painting. She was an awarded watercolor artist in Florida and Texas participating in numerous art shows and exhibitions where she sold her paintings and more often gifted them to friends and family.

After relocating to Sarasota, Veejay and Glen enjoyed many rounds of golf with friends at Bent Tree Country Club and other lovely and challenging courses over the years. Veejay enjoyed many pleasurable years on the links, most recently with friends from Blue Skies at the San Antonio Golf Course.

Veejay was of the Methodist faith and loved her Lord, Jesus Christ.

She was a gentle soul, always kind, soft-spoken, slow to anger, non-judgmental, and never said an unkind word to or about anyone. She enjoyed attending church services at Blue Skies Chapel and having Sunday lunches afterwards, most recently with her dear friends, Pat Wagner and Al Buie.

Veejay's favorite colors were purple and pink - you could tell by her clothing choices. She loved animals, especially her companion kitty Bella, flowers, and beautiful scenery - many of these loves reflected in her artwork.

The family wishes to thank her special friend and care giver, Georgia McKenzie. Georgia was always by her side when needed providing great comfort and encouragement.

We also wish to thank the staff at Blue Skies, Liberty House, Sacred Heart Hospice Group, Preferred Care at Home, and Davita Dialysis Clinic (especially Christopher) for their care and concern.

Thanks to the many friends and family members for your outpouring of love through calls, visits, flowers, cards, and especially your hugs, words of encouragement and remembrances.

A memorial will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday, June 9, 2026 in the Chapel at Liberty House, Blue Skies West, 5200 John D Ryan Blvd., San Antonio, Texas 78245.

Interment will be at The National Cemetery in Sarasota, Florida at a future date.
