Obituary

Stephen Alson Bourquin, 67 of Rio Medina, passed away on May 3, 2023 at his family home.

Stephen was born on January 17, 1956 in Castroville, Texas, the youngest of four children of Ervin William Bourquin and Thelma Marie Steubing Bourquin.

He graduated from Medina Valley High School in 1974 with his plans already laid out. A fifth generation Medina County farmer, Stephen knew his destiny was in the land and he proudly stepped into the role that would become his legacy. He married his wife, Beth Ann Tondre on December 3, 1977 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. Together the two celebrated forty-five years of marriage and were blessed with two daughters and six granddaughters.

A farmer cultivates and grows the land he's responsible for, and Stephen was a damn good farmer. With a farmer's spirit through and through, Stephen was most passionate about growing things; from the land, to his crops, to his family— leaving more behind than he was given. Stephen knew the importance of good roots. The land of his ancestors couldn't have been in better hands, as keeping that land in the family became his lifelong mission, and expanding it his tireless goal. With incredible ingenuity, anyone who knew him could attest to his unmatched ability to engineer a fix for anything; a skill that lives on in his daughters. Since a farmer can't take summer breaks, winter became the season for the annual family vacation, where Stephen developed a love for snow skiing alongside his girls.

"Stebo" (as he was lovingly called by his granddaughters) leaves behind his wife, Beth Bourquin of Rio Medina, his daughters and sons-in-law, Tracy and Dylan Morgan of Perth, Australia, and Megan and Preston King of San Antonio; grandchildren Ellizabeth Morgan, Ainsley Morgan, Ivah Morgan, Millie Morgan, Addison King, and Tessa King; sister, Patsy Allen of Rio Medina, in-laws, Claudia and Lee Livingston, John Tondre and Kathie Jordan, Susan and Michial Rau, Larry and Anne Tondre, and Carolyn Bourquin; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Stephen was preceded in death by his parents Ervin and Thelma Bourquin; his brothers Larry Bourquin and Dr. Al Willis Bourquin, Phd, and his brother-in-law, Jimmy Allen.
