Sally Hood
Coyle
Aug 23, 1953 — Jul 23, 2022
Castroville
Sally Hood Coyle, age 68 of Castroville, Texas, passed away at home on July 23, 2022. Sally was born August 23, 1953 in Fort Fairfield, Maine to Col. Richard Frank Jellerson (US Army, Retired Optometrist of Sanford, Maine) and Melba Hood Jellerson (Retired Nurse of Mechanic Falls, Maine).
Growing up in a military family, Sally and her big brother, Bob, called home wherever their dad was stationed. They were stationed in Germany, Kentucky, Texas, New Jersey and finally upon retiring at Fitzsimons Army Hospital, Colorado.
Sally graduated Hinkley High School in Aurora, Colorado in 1971. After high school, she pursued a degree in Landscaping. At one time, Sally had worked at one of the elite clubs in Carmel Valley, California where she mingled with and got to know many famous celebrities. Her last occupation was that of an optician.
Sally married young and started an early family, giving birth to her first bundle of joy, daughter Lisa Foley in 1973. Sally was again graced with a second loving daughter, Sarah Hitchcock, born in 1983. During that time, she resided at several different Naval stations in Connecticut, United Kingdom, Washington state and Texas.
Sally finally settled down in Castroville when she married retired US Army Lt. Col. George B. Coyle. Years after his passing, Sally became engaged to her sweetheart, retired US Air Force TSgt Lloyd E. Ross, Jr. She has been a long-standing resident for over 26 years.
Sally loved to help within the Castroville community by volunteering for many events and fundraisers. She was one of the founding members and secretary of the Castroville Economic Development Council, Member of the Friends of the Landmark Inn, American Legion Weiss-Wurzbach Post 460 Women's Auxiliary, Castro Colonies Heritage Association, and the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution to name a few.
Sally was such a beautiful, loving, talented, and kindhearted person who was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. She had a great sense of humor and a zest for life. Sally was a phenomenal cook who loved to host elegant dinners, usually featuring lobster, for friends and family. Holiday and special occasion dinners were her favorite. She also enjoyed the outdoors and gardening. The stargazer lily was her most favorite of flowers next to the red corn poppy.
One of her most favorite times of year was springtime when the poppies bloomed at her home. Sally left an everlasting impression with those who visited, welcoming and touching the hearts of thousands of people through the years who came to photograph their families amongst the poppies.
Sally was preceded in death by her loving parents, Richard and Melba Jellerson; and her loving and kind-hearted husband, George B. Coyle.
Survivors include her pride and joy King Poodle, Jack; loving fiancé, Lloyd E. Ross, Jr. of Castroville; loving brother, Robert Jellerson of Quihi; daughter, Lisa Haukom (Michael) and Sally's first precious grandson, Ferris Haukom of Oregon; daughter, Sarah Yi (Sang) and her second precious granddaughter, Evelyn Yi and her handsome grandson, Harrison Yi of Virginia.
