Russell Hahnel, of Hondo, passed away on February 11, 2021 in San Antonio, at the age of 65. He was born September 18, 1955 in San Antonio, Texas, the youngest of three children of Elliott Francis Hahnel and Peggy Ruth Geyer Hahnel.

On May 15, 1999, Russell married Joy Lynn Eckhardt at St. Gerard Catholic Church in San Antonio, Texas. They were blessed with twenty-one years of marriage. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville.

Survivors include his wife, Joy Hahnel of Hondo; daughter, Dustie Ross (Shawn) of La Vernia; grandchildren, Blaze Ross and Mazie Ross; sister, Phyllis French of Hondo and brother, Richard Hahnel of San Antonio, his beloved aunt, Maxine Haag as well as many nieces and nephews.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his uncle, Walter Haag.

The Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in Castroville, Texas.

Memorials may be made in Russell's memory to any of the church funds at St. Louis Catholic Church.
