Robert "Bob" Persyn, of Castroville, passed away at his home March 9, 2021, surrounded by family. He was born September 2, 1949, in San Antonio, Texas to Robert L. Persyn and Yvonne Stevens Persyn.

Bob married the love of his life, Hilda Aelvoet, on September 19, 1970, and their fifty-year marriage blessed them with five children and fourteen grandchildren. Lovingly known to the family as "Pops", Bob was the definition of a family man. When the kids were young, he never missed a sporting event or award ceremony.

In his retirement years, you would find Bob and Hilda cheering on grandchildren at sports events, theatre plays, and babysitting. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Bob. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and loved working outside on the homestead he and Hilda created.

Bob never knew a stranger and had a gift for seeing the good in everyone and every situation. Bob taught his family the value of hard work. He was slow to speak and quick to listen, and his eyes always shined brightly after telling a good joke. He loved a good cookie (or two) and always had an extra mint in his pocket at just the right time.

Bob led his family by example and was a servant of Christ. He worked as an insurance broker for forty-five years, was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, St. Louis Men's Society, the American Legion and Belgian American Club of Texas.

Bob blessed his family with a lifetime of memories. While he will be dearly missed by all who knew him, he lived a very full life and was prepared and eager to meet his Lord and Savior.

He is survived by his wife, Hilda; children, Troy (Margarita), Dawn (Kirby), Matthew (Sarah), Michael (Jennifer) and Kyle (Lindsey); grandchildren, Liam, Luc, Ana, Alejandra, Mackenzie, Jack, Calleigh, Gracyn, Claire, Blake, Rachel, Hudson, Logan and Colby; siblings, Phil (Joan), Joann (Harold), Andrew, Marlene (Rick); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rosary and Memorial Mass of the Resurrection will be on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Castroville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's memory to St. Louis Catholic School in Castroville.
