Rhonda Lee
Keller Haby
Nov 6, 1938 — Apr 18, 2020
Castroville
Rhonda Lee Keller Haby, of Castroville, passed away early in the morning on Saturday, April 18, 2020 in a San Antonio hospital at the age of 81 years. She was born November 6, 1938 in San Antonio, one of two children born to Branch Thomas Keller, Sr. and Ida Mae Geiger Keller. Rhonda passed away on her mother's 105 th "Heavenly" birthday.
Rhonda attended school in La Coste where she was a twirler in high school. She graduated from La Coste High School in 1956. One year after graduating from high school, Rhonda married Raymond "Ray" Garland Haby on May 5, 1957 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in La Coste. Their marriage was blessed with three sons, nine grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Rhonda and Ray would have celebrated sixty-three years of marriage in a few days.
While caring for her family and home, Rhonda also worked outside of the home. She delivered the San Antonio Light newspaper for several years and worked as an aide at St. Louis Catholic School and also for Medina Valley ISD-La Coste Campus for thirty years. She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Catholic Life Insurance Branch 17 and the Red Hat Society. After retiring, she volunteered her time and talents with the St. Louis Catholic Church Bereavement Committee.
Rhonda could often be seen riding her bicycle twice daily in Castroville, riding five miles in the morning and five miles in the afternoon. She would venture from her home on the East side of the Medina River and cross over the bridge to travel down streets on the opposite side, frequently stopping to visit friends along the way. She continued her daily rides until her health declined and she could no longer do it. It was one of the simple things in life she really missed doing.
Survivors include her husband Ray Haby of Castroville; sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Trudy Haby of Castroville, Blane and Janet Haby of Castroville, Daryl and Yvette Haby of San Antonio; grandchildren, Ashli Bossom (Johnathan), Lynli Jones (Eric), Brett Haby (Dana), Brad Haby (Erin), Brandon Haby (Allison), Taylor Haby, Kayla Haby, Caitlyn English, and Blake English; great-grandchildren, Tucker and Mason Haby, Grayson and Connor Haby, Easton Haby and "one on the way"; sisters-in-law, Susie Kempf of Castroville and Sandra Fleming of San Antonio; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Branch T. Keller, Jr. and his wife Harriet; also brothers-in-law, Gilbert "Gibby" Kempf and Pat Fleming.
Public Visitation for friends will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. Due to Social Gathering Restrictions, services will be private for family. The Holy Rosary followed by the Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at St. Louis Catholic Church.
