Raul Champion, Jr., of San Antonio, passed away on September 26, 2023 at the age of 78. He was born April 21, 1945 in San Antonio, Texas to the late Raul Champion, Sr. and Lydia Salazar.

Raul was preceded in death by his father, Raul Champion, Sr. and mother, Lydia Rangel; and his brothers, David A. Rangel and Roland Champion.

Survivors include his husband of thirty-five years, John Robert Champion; sister, Sandra Champion; brother, Daniel A. Rangel, Jr.; five nephews and eight nieces; as well as numerous grand nieces and nephews.

Raul graduated from Edgewood High School in 1963. He served in the Navy for four years and received his bachelor's degree in Spanish, and Master's degree in Linguistics at the University of Texas-Austin. In 1972 he returned to Kennedy High School and taught for twenty-eight years. He retired in 2001 and went back to teaching at Theodore Roosevelt High School for an additional five years, retiring in 2006. Raul also became an adjunct professor at Northwest Vista College for four years, and finally retired in 2010.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 10, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home with the Holy Rosary recited at 5:30 p.m. A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, Shelter #5 in San Antonio, Texas.
