Petra "Pat" Perez Whiteside, of Castroville, passed away on February 26, 2022 at the age of 87. She was born June 29, 1934 in Uvalde, Texas to Francisco Leyvas Perez and Refugia Fernandez Perez.

Pat grew up in the home adjacent to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Uvalde. She graduated from Uvalde High School in 1953 and attended Draughon Business College. She was a Civil Service employee at Lackland Air Force Base for thirty-four years, retiring as a personnel clerk supervisor. While working at Lackland AFB, she met her husband Dorse "Ken" Whiteside.

Pat and Ken got married on March 29, 1959 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Uvalde, Texas. In 2000, they built a home in Castroville and became parishioners at St. Louis Catholic Church. That same year, Pat and Ken started the Castroville Line Dancers  and taught the  weekly classes for eighteen years at the Braden Keller Center. The line dancers performed in parades, events and at the Medina Valley Health and Rehab Center every week.

Survivors include her husband of sixty-two years, Ken Whiteside of Castroville. Pat was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 9, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m., followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. A Graveside Service and Interment will be held that afternoon, at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery in Uvalde, Texas.
