Obituary

Pauline Ann Watson McCormick, of Castroville; Texas, passed away August 20, 2026 at the age of 77. She was born January 9, 1949, in Braddock, Pennsylvania, to Theodore Alexander Watson and Margaret Elsie Johnston Watson.

At the age of 5 or 6, Pauli's mom loaded the whole family in the car and drove west settling in San Bernardino, California. There Pauli attended grade school and high school. In 1968-69, at the age of 19 and 20, Pauli and her family headed up 'Operation Sendoff' at Norton AFB for troops leaving for Vietnam. This was their last stop on US soil before heading out. Any time night or day, they would meet a plane loaded with troops coming into to Norton AFB for processing. They would provide coffee and pastries to the troops and most importantly a warm friendly smile and conversation. Pauli especially liked playing cards with the troops to help pass the time. They supported over 5,000 troops leaving US soil through 'Operation Sendoff'.

In a happen stance meeting, Pauli met Hal McCormick at the bowling alley on George AFB in California. They married on June 8, 1978 and immediately left for Hahn AFB in Germany. They spent 4 wonderful years touring around Europe, participating in Volksmarches, and sharing many dinners with newfound friends. The military life took them to many places including Dover AFB in Delaware, Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, and back to George AFB in California. After retiring from the Air Force, they spent 25 years in beautiful, cool Spokane, Washington in support of the Border Patrol Agency.

In 2015, Pauli and Hal made the decision to move to Texas to be close to their son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. Pauli loved spending time with her grandchildren teaching them to knit, crochet, and sew. She loved to visit St Louis School to push her youngest granddaughter on the playground. She was more than happy to push any young child that needed a push. Through her whole life no matter where she was, she used her passion for knitting, crocheting, and sewing in support of many community needs and organizations such as donating cancer kits with beanies and port pillows or infant blankets for bereavement at local hospitals. She was very generous with her time and made everyone feel welcome.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Harold McCormick of Castroville; son and daughter-in-law, Norman and Angie Watson of Castroville; grandchildren Thomas Tschirhart (Kaitlin), Zane Watson (McKayla), Jaclyn Anderson (Matthew), Bethany Watson, and 3 great-grandchildren, Tristan Tschirhart, Thomas Tschirhart Jr., and Stella Watson.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents and 3 of her siblings.

Visitation will be Friday, September 11, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, with the Memorial Holy Rosary recited at 5:30 p.m. Pauli will be entombed at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery at a later date.
