Melvinie Lemke Smith, of Castroville, Texas, passed away August 13, 2026 at the age of 89. She was born August 27, 1936 in Goliad, Texas, to Gottlieb Otto Lemke and Rosina Louise Arnecke Lemke.

Survivors include her children, Mary "Cheryl" Smith, Robert Smith, James Smith (Sean Casey), and Michelle Cole; as well as 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Melvinie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James "J.C." Smith; daughter, Lynda Smith; great-grandson Knox Andrew Gutierrez; and brothers, Jesse Lemke and Rodney Lemke.

Visitation will be Monday, August 24, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, with a Prayer Service at 5:30 p.m. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale, Texas.

Memorials may be made in Melvinie's memory to a local nonprofit hospice or charity of your choice.
