Mary Gretchen
Varga
Aug 14, 1947 — Mar 17, 2020
Castroville
On March 17, 2020, Gretchen Varga passed away at home surrounded by her family. She is preceded in death by her parents Paul Arthur and Lucille Rochs, her brother David Rochs, as well as a daughter, Kimberlie Anne Ryniker. She is survived by her husband, Robert Varga, two daughters, Kellie Medina and Lisa Hovey, son-in-law Andrew Medina, former son-in-law Ronald Hovey, and grandchildren Richard D Ortiz, Ryan A Medina, and Tyler James A. Hovey.
Gretchen was born in San Antonio, Texas on August 14, 1947. She was educated in public schools and worked various jobs as a young lady. Gretchen retired from a long career working in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Texas Health Science Center.
She was a devoted mother first and foremost; she treasured being a grandma and was a loving wife. Her family will remember her contagious laugh, beautiful smile, and her ability to love unconditionally, no matter what. She brightened any room she entered and offered comfort to anyone in need. She never judged anybody and treated everyone equally and with kindness. She helped others all her life, often putting others needs and wants before her own. She loved animals and could never turn away a stray, she fed the wild birds and kept a dozen hummingbird feeders full. She led a simple life and enjoyed decorating, gardening, and cooking your favorite meal while spending time with family.
In June of 2013, Gretchen married her high school sweetheart, her first love, Bob Varga. Living their lives apart for 45 years, she was the happiest making up for lost time. As the married couple vowed to never be separated again until death do they part, the last seven years of her life was spent devoting herself as a loving wife to him. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
Services will be held at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home at a later date, announced accordingly. It is with much regret the family decided to delay services at this time. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the American Cancer Society, St Jude's Children's Hospital, or any other non-profit charity of your choice.
