Lynda K.
Armstrong
Oct 6, 1943 — Aug 26, 2020
Castroville
Lynda K. Armstrong, 76, of Castroville, went to her eternal rest on August 26, 2020. Lynda was born on October 6, 1943 in Lumberton, Mississippi. With her parents, Merle and Woodrow Chatagnier, she spent most of her childhood growing up in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. She graduated from Permain High School in Odessa, Texas in 1962 and was a proud MoJo supporter.
With her career, she became a trailblazer and was the first woman roustabout for Gulf Oil in Odessa Texas. This position started with a $50 bet with a friend and she stood-up to the challenges of being in a man's world. Later, she was able to take this knowledge to a position at Eastern New Mexico University to teach Petroleum Technology. Lynda went back to school and earned a Bachelors of Business Management from Wayland Baptist University and went to work for them as an Associate Register of off-campus programs. She was a long-time member of Northwest Hills Christian Church in San Antonio, Texas.
Lynda is survived by her father, Woodrow Chatagnier of Lake Charles, Louisiana; her children, Kimberley Gaskill (Donald Gaskill) of Castroville, Texas and John Armstrong (Kim Armstrong) of Katy, Texas; her grandchildren, Randall Fleming (Dani), Amanda Zamora (Nicholas), Courtney Gust (Ian) and Austin Armstrong (Lauren); her great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Dean, Roy, and Andrew Fleming, Abigail and Evan Zamora, Andrew and baby Gust, Courtney and Gareth Lawson and numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her firecracker personality.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Merle Chatagnier and her two sisters, Mary Blackmon and Jo Rita Schooley.
Even though we are saddened by her death, we celebrate her life and know we will meet again. Her family holds to the scripture that she is now in the shelter of the Most High (Psalm 91).
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date to ensure all family members can be present. The family is asking in lieu of flowers please make donations in her name to the Adams Hill Patriot Food and School Supply Pantry, c/o Mrs. Gaskill, Counselor, 9627 Adams Hill Drive, San Antonio, TX 78245.
