Louis was the Consumer and Commercial Loan Officer for the National Bank of Commerce of San Antonio for 21 years. He then served as the first President of Ingram Park Bank of Commerce which opened on December 4, 1978, and which was the scene of an armed robbery in 1981. In December of 1986 he became President of Castroville State Bank and continued in that position until he retired on December 31, 1993. He continued serving as a Director of the Castroville State Bank until June 12, 2015.
In addition to his professional career, he served as a member of the Medina Valley ISD Board of Trustees for 9 years during the 1960's and 1970's and served as President of the board his last 3 years. He also held a Private Pilots License during the 1970's.
On December 7, 1950, four months after getting married, Louis was drafted into the Army as the Korean Conflict was just beginning. Louis served 2 years on active duty, but fortunately was never sent to a duty assignment in Korea. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant, and in June of 1955 he accepted a direct reserve commission as a 2 nd Lieutenant in the 344 th Field Artillery Battalion, 90 th Infantry Division. He completed several advanced Field Artillery courses over the years and later retired as a Colonel after 26 years of Army Reserve service.
Louis enjoyed the outdoors immensely. He enjoyed deer hunting and ranching, and particularly enjoyed outings with family members. He was an extraordinary father-figure, never hesitating to offer words of wisdom and advice to his children and grandchildren, especially when sharing his experience in financial and business matters.
