Obituary

Leo Glennon Hart, Jr. of San Antonio, TX and formerly of Chandler, AZ and Glenview, IL died on Thursday, January 8, 2026 after a long illness. Born on April 7, 1948 in Evanston, IL to Loretta E. Hart and Leo G. Hart Sr., he was their only son. He attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Glenview, IL and Notre Dame High School for Boys in Niles, IL. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on October 23, 1970 for a military career that lasted almost thirty years.

After attending basic training at Lackland Air Force Base and technical school at Lowry Air Force Base, his first duty station was at Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin TX. After a year there, he received orders for Neubrucke, Germany with a follow-up assignment to Cannon Air Force Base in New Mexico. He transferred to the Illinois Air National Guard with the 126th Air Refueling Wing at O'Hare Air Reserve Base in Chicago, IL. Assigned to the 126th Resource Management Squadron as an Air Technician, he served Base Supply as a Retail Sales Technician, Management and Procedures Branch, Material Storage and Classification, Material Management Supervisor, and Supply Systems Supervisor.

Leo then transferred to the 126th Maintenance Squadron as a Logistics Plans Technician. While serving as the "Loggie," he deployed several times, including to England, Germany, France, Norway, Italy, Shaw Air Force Base (South Carolina), Fairchild Air Force Base (Washington), Forbes Air National Guard Base (Kansas), among others. During Desert Shield/Storm, he served at Moron Air Base and finally at the United Arab Emirates. He retired as an Air Technician and a member of the Air Force on August 6, 1999.

After his retirement, Leo worked for America West Airlines, Northwest Airlines, and American Airlines.

No matter where he lived, Leo was a diehard Cubs and Bears fan and passed his love for Chicago sports on to his daughters. He was a talk radio enthusiast, but enjoyed a wide variety of music genres. Leo loved to grill, especially burgers and brats – hold any tomatoes, please. Every year, he selected Christmas ornaments for his daughters and grandchildren, a tradition they cherished for decades. He was picky about his black ink pens. Leo was an avid reader and a History buff, often combining those two interests. There was no episode of Monk he had not seen. And it was a rare occasion when he actually shared his full middle name.

Leo is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Lillian Hart and Mary Loretta (Laurie) Byrnes. He is survived by his sister Barbara Anne Kacsmark, two daughters: Steph and Rachel, two grandchildren: Ava and Austin Williams, as well as his nieces and nephews: Carol (Byrnes) Ames, Dave Byrnes, Lisa (Kacsmark) Dykas, Steve Kacksmark, Megan (Byrnes) Scully, and Katie (Byrnes) Kaiser.

Leo will be laid to rest with full military honors at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Friday, January 23, 2026 at 9:30am.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to the Veterans Community Project in Kansas City (https://vcp.org), supporting the Wreaths Across America project at "Fort Sam" (https://wreathsacrossamerica.org/pages/14959), or contributing to a veteran's organization of your choice.
