Joann Alice
Davidson Mechler
Feb 15, 1933 — Jul 26, 2024
San Antonio
JoAnn Alice Davidson Mechler, of San Antonio transitioned into Heaven on July 26, 2024 at the age of 91. She was born February 15, 1933 in Logansport, Indiana to Byron Clifford Davidson and Indiana Alice Little Davidson.
JoAnn grew up in Logansport, Indiana and graduated in 1951 from Logansport High School. Upon graduation, JoAnn moved into the YWCA and worked at the Double Dip Ice Cream Shop. JoAnn's life eventually took her to San Antonio, Texas. She began her career with the Security Service Command where she worked for many years, later transitioning to what would become her favorite job at University Hospital as a medical transcriptionist. A lover of reading and the knowledge of a vast array of terms, her understanding of Latin (the root of most English words) greatly assisted her success as a medical transcriptionist.
In her thirties, she met the man who would become her husband of thirty-six years while going to buy eggs from his farm, with one of her friends. On March 17, 1971, JoAnn married Henry Allen Mechler at the Lackland Air Force Base Chapel in San Antonio. They enjoyed dancing and playing cards, and later they were happiest when they went RVing with their friends to places like Red Rocks, Colorado. At the age of seventy-five years and on, she was able to cross off some bucket list items including a roller-skating party with her family and friends, traveling to Greece, and going on an Alaskan cruise.
She had a deep love and commitment for the care of her pets and assisted others at times in making sure their animals were also cared for in emergencies. But most of all, she intensely loved her family and the most memorable times for her were when she was able to have her entire family together. This was especially true on her ninetieth birthday when her family and friends threw her a surprise birthday party.
Special thanks to Heart of Texas Hospice, and her many caregivers, especially Olivia and Barbara.
Survivors include her children, Pamela Taylor of San Antonio, Judy Tschirhart (Larry) of Troup, Texas, and Tom Mechler of Amarillo; grandchildren, Stephanie Pope Mion (Erik), Robert Pope, III, Nicholas Tschirhart (Jaime), Amber Tschirhart Herrin (Zach), Jessica Tschirhart Helgesen (Eric), Mitsziko Mote (Ty), Melea Bonasso (Marc), Michalla Mechler, and Michael Mechler; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Charles Davidson (Rosemarie) and Clifford Davidson; sister, Kay Allen; nieces Carol and Linda Mechler as well as other nieces and nephews.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry Allen Mechler; daughter, Karen Sue Mechler-Lovelace (Roger Lovelace); sister, Bertha Mae Robbins (Joe); and sister-in-law Evelyn Davidson (Clifford).
