Jean Anne Balzen Marty, of Hondo, Texas passed away February 3, 2024 at the age of 79. She was born May 19, 1944 in Hondo, Texas to Melvin John Balzen and Elvera Cheeseman Balzen.

Jean graduated from Hondo High School in 1962. On June 24, 1962, Jean married Wayne Leonard Marty at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville. They were blessed with fifty-four years of marriage and one daughter. In 1969, Jean began working in the Medina County Clerk's office. She served as the Medina County District Clerk from 1979 until she retired in 1998. Jean enjoyed sewing, quilting, and bird watching, and was a member of the Castroville Quilters and Stitchers. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Jimmy Hoog of Hondo; grandchildren, Jennifer Turner (Mark), Matthew Hoog (Julia), and Eric Hoog (Kaelyn); great-grandchildren, Francesca Turner, Everett Turner, Lane Hoog, Kade Hoog, Leighton Hoog, and one on the way; brother, Wayne Balzen; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne Marty; in-laws, Betty Balzen, and Darryl and Judy Marty; and numerous other relatives.

Visitation will be Monday, February 12, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home with the Holy Rosary recited at 5:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Quihi Cemetery in Quihi, Texas.
