George Claude
Sarran
Feb 5, 1939 — Dec 28, 2023
San Antonio
LTC George Claude Sarran, USA (ret), San Antonio businessman, philanthropist and die-hard Republican passed away on Thursday December 28th, 2023. He was born on February 5th, 1939 to George and Bessie Sarran in San Antonio, TX. George attended Central Catholic High School where he served as the drum major in the JROTC. Upon graduation, George attended the United States Military Academy at West Point. George was a proud member of the Class of 1962 ('62 can do!) and very active in the alumni association.
Upon graduation from West Point, George entered the Army in the 82nd Airborne and qualified as a ranger and paratrooper. He served a tour in Vietnam as a MAC-V advisor. George was wounded in battle and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star (V for Valor). George left the regular army in 1968 joining the Texas National Guard, where he met the love of his life, Sue Catherine Fisher at Fort Hood, Texas. After earning his MBA at University of Texas at Austin, George went back into the regular Army in 1971 with his new bride Sue (who also joined as an army nurse) where their first assignment was Fort Sill, OK. After many amazing duty stations to include Germany, Fort Hood and Washington, DC, LTC Sarran retired from Army life in 1986. His last duty station was at the Office of the Joint Chief of Staff at the Pentagon where he served as a comptroller.
After leaving the Army, George and his family retired to his hometown of San Antonio, TX. He worked in many different industries before finding his passion for real estate. George went back to school to become a realtor and opened his own brokerage in 2000.
Despite George's busy schedule and numerous commitments, his true passion was his family. He loved traveling to see his daughters and always enjoyed making his grandchildren's games.
George loved life and was a life-long learner. He never met a stranger and made so many friends throughout his life. He was quick to tell a joke, generous to a fault, and always willing to lend a hand when he could. His irreverent sense of humor and adventurous spirit will be truly missed.
LTC George Sarran is survived by his wife of nearly 53 years Sue, his daughter Kathleen and John Carroll of Millstone, NJ, daughter Shelley and Steven Mutz of Rio Medina, TX; grandchildren Ethan Mutz, Connor Carroll, Owen Mutz and Morgan Mutz; step-grandchildren Catherine Mitchell, John Carroll Jr, Matthew Carroll; and 2 step-great grandchildren.
