George Irving
Hoskins
Sep 29, 1928 — Dec 28, 2022
San Antonio
George Irving Hoskins passed away on December 28, 2022, at the age of 94. He was born on September 29, 1928, in Milo, Maine to Ned Laurence Hoskins and Cecilia Germaine Poulin Hoskins.
George graduated from Milo High School in 1946 and married his high school sweetheart, Gloria Belle Mitchell in1948. They were married for more than sixty-three years at the time of her passing in 2012.
They raised their children in Milo, Maine until George accepted a position with Sears Roebuck and Co. The family moved to Farmington, Maine in 1964, where George managed the local Sears Catalog Store. A promotion to District Catalog Stores Manager for the New England States prompted a move to Barrington, New Hampshire where they stayed until his retirement in 1987. Their final move was to sunny Sarasota, Florida in 1988. They loved the Florida weather and lifestyle, remaining in the same neighborhood for more than thirty years. George had an active Florida real estate license until his passing and enjoyed keeping up with the real estate market in Florida.
He enjoyed socializing and always had a vast number of friends. He brought joy to all who met him and always had a smile. He enjoyed going out to eat and being in warm weather and sunshine. He was an avid tennis player and exceptionally good dancer.
George is survived by his children: son, Jeffrey Mitchell Hoskins and his wife, Karen Persyn Hoskins of San Antonio, TX, daughter, Jennifer Hansen of Toano, Virginia, and daughter, Janice de Bruijn and her husband, Ray de Bruijn of Monster, The Netherlands; his sister, Cecilia Stevens of Bloomfield, Connecticut. Many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
He is dearly missed in death but was loved beyond measure in life. A burial ceremony for the family will take place in Milo, Maine in the summer of 2023.
