Fr. Mike
Christopher Horan M.S.C.
Dec 14, 1953 — Dec 2, 2024
San Antonio
The death has taken place of Fr. Mike Horan M.S.C and Archdiocese of San Antonio, Texas, late of Coolnageragh, Scartaglen and Brosna Road, Castleisland.
Peacefully, on the 2nd of December 2024, after an illness borne with great courage and dignity in the tender care of the Sisters and staff of St. Francis Nursing Home, San Antonio, Texas. Fr. Mike was born December 14, 1953 in Kerry, Ireland to Denny Horan and Maura Crowley-Horan.
Fr. Mike was ordained in 1980 in Ireland and came to the San Antonio Archdiocese where he served as a priest for St. Patrick Catholic Church, Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville, St. Luke Catholic Church, St. Matthew Catholic Church, Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Christ the King Catholic Church, and St. Dominic Catholic Church.
Dearly loved eldest son of the late Denny and Maura (nee Crowley). Predeceased by his brothers, Denis Martin and John and his sister, Catherine (Reidy).
Dear brother of Moss (Coolnageragh), Paudie (Glenflesk) and Carol (Butler). Fr. Mike will be sadly missed by his brothers, sister, sisters-in-law Kathleen, Peggy and Kathleen, brothers-in-law John and Brendan, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and communities in Texas. May he rest in peace.
A Memorial Rosary and Eulogy will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at St. Louis Catholic Church, 1306 Angelo Street, Castroville, Texas. A Memorial Mass and Eulogy will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 20th, 2024 at St. Luke Catholic Church, 4603 Manitou Drive, San Antonio, Texas. A Requiem Mass for Fr. Mike will take place in the Church of St. Stephen and St. John, Castleisland, Ireland on January 4th, 2025.
Fr. Mike always opened his heart and arms to all whose paths crossed his. He had a passion for helping the poor and teaching others the importance of giving of oneself, both monetarily and physically. Fr. Mike began a mission in El Salvador 20 years ago, building places of worship for the locals to celebrate Mass, and also classrooms where the young and old could study scripture. They are now focused on beginning a new project in Ciudad Toledo where they will begin building a clinic and a chapel. The country of El Salvador has been ravaged by violence for many years. The people are beautiful and so deserving of any help we can give them. Fr. Mike's dying wish was that his friends and family would not let the Mission die, but instead to continue to keep it alive with donations and people going to continue the work. Memorials may be made in Fr. Mike's memory to the El Salvador Mission. GoFundMe - Mision El Savador or at the services.
