Florence Mary Schneider Mechler of Castroville, passed away on August 8, 2022 at the age of 92. She was born November 25, 1929 in Rio Medina, Texas to Armin Louis Schneider and Hulda Clara Etter Schneider.

On October 26, 1950, Florence married Howard Paul Mechler. They were blessed with forty-seven years of marriage and five children. She was a lifelong member of St. Louis Catholic Church and a longtime member of St. Ann's Altar Society.

Florence grew up in Rio Medina and attended the Rio Medina School along with her brothers and sister. She was a farmer's wife, mother, and homemaker. She also worked outside of the home as a substitute in the cafeteria at Medina Valley ISD, part time at Mechler's Place and for twenty-five years she was a salesclerk at Haby's Alsatian Bakery.

Survivors include her sons, Donald Joseph "Joe" Mechler (Joyce) of Kerrville and James Mechler of Castroville; daughter, Mary Tomey (James) of Hondo; son-in-law, James Kwapich of Medina; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; sister, Rose Marie Schievelbein of San Antonio; brother, Walter Schneider (Jacklyn) of Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Mrs. Hugo 'Kathy' Schneider of San Antonio; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard Mechler; son, Thomas Mechler; daughter, Sandra Mechler Kwapich; brothers, Frank A. Schneider, Sr. and Hugo Schneider; and brother-in-law, Allen Schievelbein.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 17, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, with the Holy Rosary recited at 5:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in Castroville.
