Eugene H. "Gene" Thommen Jr., age 82 of Mico, TX, passed away October 9, 2019 after a brief hospital stay. Gene was born April 11, 1937 in Sag Harbor, New York. He is a son of the late Eugene H. Thommen and Arlene Daniels Morgan. On June 21, 1981 he married the former Shirley M. Bonesteel in Southampton, New York.

After graduating from East Hampton High School in 1955, Gene joined the United States Navy and served as an Aviation Electronics Technician. He later worked for Grumman Aerospace Corporation on both the Apollo 11 Lunar Mission and the F-14 "Tomcat" program before becoming a Deputy Sheriff for Suffolk County, NY.

In 1997, Gene and his wife, Shyrl, retired to Bedford, VA where they were active with their many friends at the Morgans Baptist Church, and he was able to fulfill his passion for designing and building model train stations. In 2013, they moved to Mico, TX to spend their remaining years with family. In addition to his parents, Gene is preceded in death by his wife; his brothers, Arthur Thommen and James Thommen, and his sisters, Joyce Flanagan and Diane Pfost.

Survivors include daughter, Merrilee Jones of Keystone Heights, FL; daughter, Lorrilee Gorman of Boynton Beach, FL; son, Robert Thommen of St Cloud, FL; son, Daniel Connors of Gainesville, FL; daughter, Jennifer Thommen of Murfreesboro TN; step-daughter, Patti Finch of San Antonio, TX; step-son, Frederick "Jim" Finch of Mico, TX and daughter-in-law, Patricia Finch also of Mico, TX; his sister, Denise Morgan Scott of East Hampton, NY; sister, Darlene Liquore of Garwood, NJ; sister-in-law, Carole Thommen of Moneta, VA. Additionally, Gene is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

A memorial service and celebration of Gene's life will be on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville, TX with interment (date to be decided) at the Oakland Cemetery in Sag Harbor, NY.
