Erna Marie Day Dowell

January 28, 1986 – November 26, 2020

Erna Marie Day was born on January 28, 1986, to Patrick J Day and Mary B Day of San Antonio, TX (Rio Medina). She was named in honor of her grandmother, Erna Wurzbach Day and honor her, she did. She was a beautiful, loving, happy, and active child that almost instantly was loved by the people she met. While she encountered a string of adversities throughout her life, she was persistent in her drive to succeed. From an early age, she wanted to be a Nurse in order to follow in the footsteps of 'Mee Maw' and her dad, Pat. She was a 2003 graduate from Medina Valley HS in Castroville, TX, attended Galan College of Nursing for her LVN license as a single mom, and then obtained her BSN from Wayland Baptist University. She was employed at Methodist Stone Oak Hospital.

She wanted to be a Surgical Nurse, like her namesake, but her compassion for patients led her to Oncology. She always loved animals and they loved her back, whether a full-grown Brahma bull tolerating the 4-year-old banging his head with an ear of dried corn, or her much loved Palomino, 'Cash Offer' who would give his all for her early teenage barrel racing efforts. She couldn't do 4-H animals because she couldn't sell/let go of her animals at the end of the year. We believe that the close animal relationships helped her instinctively know how to make and keep human real friendships and treat patients and families with dignity in her adult years.

Music was a special part of Erna's life, not only because she loved to sing and dance, but also because she felt the special connection to her brother Douglas' musical adventures with several Austin Texas bands. The Austin City Limits festival was an annual event on her calendar.

Survivors include her parents, Pat and Mary Day of San Antonio; son, Kyle S. Day of Universal City; brother, Douglas P. and wife Jeri Day and son Nolan Anthony of Austin; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her grandfather, Dr Phillip Day; grandmother and namesake, Erna W Day; her maternal grandparents, Joe and Cecilia Busenlehner; uncle, Lt Richard Busenlehner; aunt, Kathlene Feuille; and cousins, Conrad Waggenner and Robert Feuille.

Her life was ended, senselessly and tragically, on November 26, 2020 at the age of 34. The family will hold a celebration of Erna's life on a later date. They request that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Family Violence Prevention Services, whether in San Antonio, https://fvps.org or their local communities.
