Eleanor Katherine Mathis passed away in her home in Castroville, Texas on November 2, 2020. By her side were her two daughters, Carolyn Long and Marilyn Delleney. Eleanor was born on March 29, 1918 in Kingsville, Texas to Mark Anderson and Nora Alice White.

On September 9, 1939, she married Jack Grey Mathis in Kingsville, Texas. She was married to Jack Grey Mathis for fifty-two devoted and loving years.

Eleanor graduated in the first graduating class from A & I College. She was a teacher for thirty-six years in the local school system. Many of her past students remember her fondly. Eleanor always had a twinkle in her eye to go with the sweet smile, which was telling of her mischievous quality, often punctuated with her signature wink. She delighted in humor, jokes, teasing, and general "clowning around," as she called it. This was always expressed uniquely and in unexpected ways. Perhaps this is but one reason she and her husband, Jack, were so suited for each other.

Eleanor's love, support and humor will be deeply missed by many, and her grandchildren always felt enveloped by it. They remember her coming to take care of them looking forward to her stays and the many times spent at Castroville, which always included lots of play and laughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mark and Nora White; husband, Jack Grey Mathis; son-in-law, Ned B. Delleney; daughter-in-law, Shirley Mathis; brothers, Richard L. White, Mark A. White and Howard H. White.

Eleanor is survived by her children, Marilyn A. Delleney, Carolyn J. Long, Jack Grey Mathis II; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Public Visitation will be Monday, November 9, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Castroville Community Cemetery in Castroville, Texas.
