Doris Mae
Boerner Uhl
May 3, 1931 — Aug 3, 2024
Mico
Doris Mae Boerner Uhl went to be with the Lord on August 3, 2024 at her home in Mico, Texas at the age of 93. She was born May 3, 1931 in Comfort, Texas to Edgar A. F. Boerner and Margaret Pauline Below Boerner.
Doris graduated from Fox Tech High School in San Antonio. After graduation, she started working as a secretary for the Continuing Education Program at Fox Tech. Several years later, the program moved to the San Antonio College campus where she later retired.
She was an avid gardener and bird watcher and became a member and officer of several clubs including the Native Plant Society, Madrona Garden Club, San Antonio Cactus and Xerophyte Society, the Kerr County Cactus and Succulent Society, and the Alamo Exhibition Bird Club. In addition to her plant and bird clubs, she was also a member of the Southwest Gem and Mineral Society and AARP Valley Hi Chapter 2639.
Doris and her husband, Marvin, made their final move to Castroville to be closer to family where she became involved with the Castroville Public Library. In 2010, the Mayor of Castroville recognized Doris as the "quintessential volunteer" and proclaimed March 26th as "Doris Uhl Day" in Castroville for her "steadfast devotion and love of her community". She became a member of the Friends of the Castroville Library and was on the City's Sports and Recreation Regional Advisory Board. Doris remained busy her entire life, "if you know, you know!", even after moving to her last home in Mico, Texas.
Survivors include her daughters, Leah Mechler of La Coste and Myra Schneider (Robert) of Castroville; sons, Duane Uhl (Mary) of Devine and Rodney Uhl (Lisa Danhof) of Mico; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin Uhl; son, Walter Uhl; and infant brother, Alton Boerner.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 14, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Castroville, Texas.
Memorials may be made in Doris' memory to the Castroville Public Library or to the charity of your choice.
