Obituary

Danny Dugger Bendele passed away peacefully at his home in Helotes, Texas, surrounded by his loving family on September 7, 2026, at the age of 73.

Danny was born in San Antonio, Texas, on November 24, 1952, to Spettel "Buddy" Bendele and Mozelle Dugger Bendele. He grew up in Rio Medina, where he worked alongside his family in their butcher shop. Those early years helped shape his strong work ethic and led to a 40-year career in the San Antonio meat-processing industry. Throughout his career, Danny worked for San Antonio Packing, Frontier Meat & Supply, and Supreme Meats.

In 1979, Danny married Carol Susan Haby at St. Luke Catholic Church. Together, they shared 47 years of marriage and built a life filled with family, hard work, and many cherished memories.

A rancher at heart, Danny found great joy working on his ranch in Pearsall, raising cattle, and spending time deer hunting. He was especially proud to help his son, Robin, and daughter, Michelle, raise hogs for 4-H and FFA. Whether he was working cattle, helping with a livestock project, or sharing advice, Danny believed in doing things the right way—and usually had a clever remark ready while doing it.

Danny never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He loved telling jokes, although it was nearly impossible to tell him one that he had not already heard. His quick wit, warm personality, remarkable memory, and gift for making others laugh will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Danny is survived by his wife, Carol Haby Bendele; his son, Robin Bendele; his daughter, Michelle Bendele; his brother, Michael Bendele, and wife, Sandy; his nephew, Brian Bendele, and wife, Andrea; his great-nephews, Ridley and Ryatt Bendele; his brother-in-law, Jeffrey John Haby, and wife, Lauren; his nephew, Jacob Haby; and his niece, Neely Haby. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will fondly remember his humor, friendship, generous spirit, and the stories he so lovingly kept alive.

The Memorial Holy Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. followed by the Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30th at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Helotes. A private burial will follow at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in Castroville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Danny's memory to St. Louis Catholic School, the American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
