Obituary

Billy Joe Fletcher, Sr, beloved rancher, farmer and devoted father, passed away peacefully near his home in Atascosa, Texas. Born in Gateway, Missouri, to Vida and George Washington Fletcher.

He is survived by his four children, Billy Joe Fletcher, Jr, of Atascosa, Angelique Fletcher (Deni Quinn) of Canyon Lake, Deborah Fletcher (Holly Wade) of Palo Alto, California, and Michelle Vargas (Roland) of Helotes; four grandsons, Devon and Brandon Fletcher, Thomas and Matthew Vargas; brother, Doyle Fletcher of Doniphan, Missouri; sister, Virginia Turnbull of  Cedar Hill, Missouri; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Billy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elva; his parents, and his sister, Bonnie Sorrell.

A proud Air Force veteran, Billy served his country during the Korean War. He met his beloved wife, Elva, at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio during basic training. Upon his return home from his tour of duty, he and Elva married and settled in Atascosa. They were blessed with almost fifty years of marriage at the time of Elva's passing in 2004. Billy was employed at Kelly Air Force Base, retiring from civil service in 1987.

Billy was a man of the earth, cultivating his family farm and ranch with an unwavering dedication and passion for the land.  Billy Joe was a self-made man whose hands bore the marks of a life spent in honest labor. He learned the value of hard work from his parents, who instilled in him the strong work ethic that defined his life.

Billy leaves behind a legacy of hard work and dedication to his family. He will be remembered fondly for his quick wit, his long stories, patience with his grandsons and thoughtful restoration of classic cars.
