Betty Sue Thompson Obituary
Today we gather to honor and remember Betty Sue Thompson, a woman whose life was rooted in love, family and quiet strength.
Betty Sue was born on September 28, 1957, and she left this world on January 31, 2026. While her years here feel far too short, the impact she made in those years will live on through everyone who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Lester Johnson and Nellie Jean Johnson, and by her beloved husband, Oliver Jessie Thompson—the love of her life. We take comfort in believing that she is reunited with them now, surrounded by the same love she carried so faithfully here on earth.
Betty Sue's greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted mother to her daughter Carol Richard and son-in-law Adam Richard, and to her son Oliver Thompson Jr. and daughter-in-law Jamie Thompson. She was a proud and loving grandmother to her three grandsons—Morgan Richard, Hayden Richard, and Owen Thompson—who were truly the light of her life. Nothing made her smile quite like her boys, and her love for them was boundless.
She is also survived by her sister, Margaret Hurst, with whom she shared a lifelong bond built on family, memories, and love. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Betty Sue was the kind of person who showed her love through her actions—through care, sacrifice, and being there when it mattered most. She had a gentle heart, a steady presence, and a way of making people feel welcomed and cared for. She was strong without being loud, kind without expecting anything in return, and loving in a way that left a lasting mark on everyone around her.
Her legacy lives on in her children, her grandchildren, and all those who were fortunate enough to know her. Though we grieve her loss, we also give thanks for the time we had with her and the countless memories she leaves behind.
As we say goodbye today, let us remember Betty Sue not with only sorrow, but with gratitude—for her life, her love, and the beautiful family she helped build. She will forever remain in our hearts.
