Annie Connolly
Wall
Mar 8, 1928 — Oct 6, 2022
San Antonio
Annie Connolly Wall of San Antonio, formerly of Houston, passed away on October 6, 2022 at the age of 94. She was born March 8, 1928 in Hamilton, Scotland to William Connolly and Anne Larkin Connolly.
Annie emigrated to the U.S. in 1950 via the MV Britannic. Upon sailing into New York harbor, she vividly recalled seeing the Statue of Liberty through her state room portal, welcoming her to the new world.
Annie worked as an executive secretary for the M.W. Kellogg Company in New York, where she met the love of her life, Matthew 'Matt' Joseph Wall.
On September 7, 1956, Annie married Matt in Rutherford, New Jersey at St. Mary's Catholic Church. They were blessed with sixty-three years of marriage and four children. Faith, family, food, and fun were the hallmarks of life in the Wall home, all shepherded by Annie's loving hands. In the early 1970's, Annie took up golf to have more time with Matt, at a time when women golfers were few. Annie was naturally athletic and held her own on the course, even outdriving some of the men -- much to Matt's delight! She was also enthusiastically involved in all four children's activities, including being den mother for son Bill's Cub Scout pack.
In 1975, when Matt's company moved its headquarters to Houston, the Wall family embarked on its Texas adventure, settling in Kingwood (North Houston). Annie became an avid tennis player, and was a formidable competitor in the HLTA, even winning her last tournament at age 70.
Matt preceded Annie in death on July 23, 2020. She then moved to San Antonio to be near to daughter Eileen.
Survivors include her children, Matthew Wall, Jr. M.D. (Barbara) of Sugar Land, Eileen Mullen (Jim) of Castroville, William Wall (Anne) of Frisco, and Kathleen Versteeg (John) of Merrimack, New Hampshire; five grandchildren, Chris, Patrick, Zoe, Matt, and Grace; one great-granddaughter, Lainey; and her siblings, Mary Weir, Rose McGranaghan, and Hugh Connolly.
Annie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Matt Wall; siblings, Janet, Faye, Agnes, Isabel, Cathy, and Thomas.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 12, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home with the Holy Rosary recited at 5:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in Castroville, Texas.
Memorials may be made in Annie's memory to Covenanthouse.org, or the charity of your choice.
