Anna Mae
Rihn Hitzfelder
Oct 7, 1926 — May 9, 2020
La Coste
Anna Mae Dorothy Rihn Hitzfelder, of La Coste, entered eternal life the morning of Saturday, May 9, 2020 at Changing Seasons Assisted Living in Castroville at the age of 93 years. She was born October 7, 1926 at the family home on Rihn Lane between La Coste and Castroville, one of twelve children born to Bernard Jacob "Dick" Rihn and Mary Anna Hutzler Rihn.
Anna Mae attended St. Louis Catholic School in Castroville and La Coste High School after her family moved to La Coste. On April 11, 1944, she married Leo Hitzfelder at St. Mary's Catholic Church in La Coste, and they were married for sixty-six years when Leo passed away on July 6, 2010.
Anna Mae loved the life of a farm wife and mother, and supported Leo throughout the years on the farm and ranch. She and Leo would sometimes drive twice a day to the Gross ranch near D'Hanis to sit in the hunting blind together. Anna Mae was known for her crafts – sewing, crochet, knitting, and more – as well as being a great cook. She loved all children and especially her numerous nieces and nephews and was a second mother to so many. She was so loving of her only son and daughter-in-law, her four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and their spouses.
Survivors include her son, Rodney and his wife Jennifer Hitzfelder; four grandchildren, Veronica (Michael) Berger, Karla (Scott) Wright, Andrew Hitzfelder and Lauren Hitzfelder; eight great-grandchildren, Payton Salzman, Vincent Berger, Aden McGee, Ainsley McGee, Jessica Wright, Kaitlyn (fiancé Jerry) Wright, Zachary Wright, and Nicholas Wright; sisters, Catherine "Kotsy" Tschirhart, Eva Ruffin, Barbara (Robert) Hargroder; brother-in-law, Vernor Bippert; sisters-in-law, Florence Becker, Lillian Graff, Mary "Mac" (Wilton) Schott and Joyce Rihn as well as dozens of nieces and nephews.
Anna Mae was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Leo; brothers, Anthony, Denis and Jerome (Helen) Rihn; sisters, Marcella Rihn, Inez (O.B.) Harless, Josephine (Melvin) Blume, Adelyn Bippert and Madelyn (Clayton) Murphy; in-laws, Lynroe Tschirhart, Julia and Oscar Tschirhart, Ella and Edward Bohl, Amelia and Alexander Hutzler, Ferdinand Becker and Joe Graff.
